Choosing A Makeup Style For The Wedding Day

Hey Hey

Listen, I know choosing a makeup style can be very frustrating for some Brides out there... Its so much fun in the start, flipping through magazines, online photos, pinterest, or watching red carpet events such as award shows, spying to see what your fav celebs are doing with their makeup...

But, once you start shopping for a makeup artist, it gets serious, there are $$$$ involved and you really dont want to waste your time, money and energy traveling about to sit down for 1 or 1 hours..all to do it over again a few weeks later.

Here are some tips I personally think may help you along in this journey... and the same could apply for hair as well :)

1. Know yourself!!!! Ask yourself,, do I want to look like a better version of myself? Or do i want to try to really go with a dramatic look or vintage style? How comfy will I be with big false lashes like the photo i think looks so pretty in Vouge.? Will I feel self conscious wearing much more makeup than I would normally wear on a night on the town? What is my groom used to seeing me in? Whats more important to me, how i look in person? or in photos? ( 99 percent of you say BOTH!!)

2. Once you "know yourself" you will make much better use of your makeup trial, you will be able to give better information to your makeup artist about the look your going for and guidance that makes sense.. if you lead her or him in the wrong direction, expect to me dissapointed, we are NOT mind readers. Photos of makeup that are true to what you want help greatly. A photo of a super dramatic look with a red lip will more than likely be duplicated on you if thats what your giving your artist to work with!

3.The look you chose in a photo may not transfer onto you the way you hoped or dreamed it would.. but hey dont get frustrated! dont give up! ask for the look to be altered/adjusted.. most artists are very versitle and good listeners.. they will give you what you want if your able to communicate your wants and needs well.

4. So you didnt clique? Hey it happens.. that uncomfy feeling youg get during or after a date gone wrong... you wont be the first and you wont be the last.. so move on to the next artist, not only will you feel relief..so will the artist. You wouldnt want this type of match on your wedding day, right?

5. Once you do find an artist that you really clique with, that is able to give you the look you want from the start or is able to with minor adjustments... get excited!!! You found the right look, the right artist! let the fun begin!!!! And truth be told you may change your lip color a few times before the big day arrives.. or maybe you will down size or up size the lashes, no worries.. make sure your happy with your look!

The 10 Commandments of Lipstick

Step aside, gloss. Lipstick is back in a big way, making mouths look strong, rich, and thoroughly refined. Here, the rules for doing lipstick right, right now

1. START FRESH

Start fresh. Exfoliate lips once or twice a week

2. AVOID TOO MUCH SPARKLE

"Shimmer can look cheap," says makeup artist Troy Surratt. Look for lipsticks with a creamy finish. "Light reflection should come from moisture in the formula, not metallic pigments

3. FIND THE RIGHT BRIGHT

Choose a bright shade based on your lips' natural color—not your skin tone. Women with pale lips look best in cherry red or coral; for naturally reddish lips, try hot pink, orange, or cranberry; for dark lips, brick red and burgundy are ideal

4. LOOK GOOD NUDE

The prettiest nude lip color is slightly brighter or deeper than your skin tone. If you're pale, look for something with a hint of pink, like Burberry Beauty Lip Cover in Nude Rose. Those with yellow or olive undertones or dark skin look best with sandy beiges, like CoverGirl LipPerfection Lipcolor in Delish.

5. AVOID THE VAMPIRE EFFECT

Blue- or black-based shades that are too dark can be severe, aging, and even a little scary. Look for lipsticks with berry undertones instead. (Try Elizabeth Arden Exceptional Lipstick in Wild Winterberry or Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lip Colour in Burgundy Lustre SPF 18.

6. DON'T WORRY ABOUT LINER

Liner is no longer a must—today's lipsticks don't bleed," To enhance your Cupid's bow or add symmetry, use a pencil that matches your lips, not your lipstick.

7. SOFTEN THE EDGES

Careful application is good; clinical precision isn't. Just smudge the border of your lips slightly

8. START IN THE MIDDLE

When applying any shade of lipstick, start at the center of lips and blend color out toward the corners of your mouth. (Never apply it directly to the corners of your mouth—it will look clownish.)

9. DON'T OVERDO IT

Prevent a strong lipstick shade from looking heavy by swiping it on just your bottom lip, pressing lips together, and using your finger to distribute the color over your mouth

10. BLOT, BLOT, BLOT

To make your lipstick last longer, apply it straight from the tube, blot with a tissue, then swipe it on again. "Blotting will create a base, and the second coat adds shine and coverage

So , Thank you for stopping by! Lets chat about how to maximize your makeup artist on the big day! I think I am def right on target with this advice, And since I happen to work on location with bride every weekend, I feel qualified for the job :)

1.Make sure you have plenty of counter space or table space! Do your homework ahead of time, scout out what your hotel or venue, will actually have in your room way ahead of time, if your having hair and makeup, this means you need double the outlets and 2 to 3 tables...Now if you have been to my studio for a trial run, you will have noticed, I have alot of makeup! And I pack up alot of makeup when I come to you the day of. If your having makeup at your home, you have plenty of time to figure out which tables and counter space will work best for everyone, afterall you know where your outlets are and mirrors ect. the best lighting.. places in you home with the best tables or counter space. Imagine the look on your makeup artist's face when you welcome them into the spot you picked out just for makeup! Your on the fast track to setting the tone for some awesome artistry, and thats what you want!

2.Chairs! Most of the time you will need a couple of regular chairs for the hair folks and one nice size bar stool, or tall chair so your makeup artist can you see your face at eye to eye level., also if your makeup artist has to bend down during makeup services, she will wear out very fast! And you dont want that do you? maybe due to back issues or ect she may feel like she has to rush or take a break or two . Make sure your comfortable with a cushy seat and a back on the chair as well. Again request your hotel or venue have a tall chair for you, or if you have a wedding planner DOC they would help with this. difficult for the makeup artist to pack a rather large makeup case and a chair..I know some do it..for me it depends on where we are doing makeup, if we are at your home and I am literally in your drive way, I can go back and get mine..but if I am parking far out in a hotel lot or valet parking..my hands are full..and the chair wont wait down at valet for a second trip.

3. Lighting! Make sure you have both good natural light (mother nature permitting) and artifical light as well, for maximum color matching/shading/detail work and all of that fun stuff. If your having makeup in the dark it can be bad news. seeing it in both natural light and artificial is wise since the majority of weddings are in the daytime and reception is evening/artificial lighting. wrong lighting can mean either too much color or not enough..very important!

4.Water Please! Ladies dont let your makeup artist or hair stylist dry up and shrivel on you ! She may be with you anywhere from 2 to 4 hours..Common courtesy to offer a bottle of water, before she has to ask. :) fortunatley most Brides and bridal parties are quick to offer the minute you walk in the door but sadly enough there are some who are so busy or it slips there minds..kindly remember to water to artist's ! :)

Room Temp. with all of the bodies .excitment..and not to mention possible hair dryers irons ect can make for a hot room! Not good! sometimes a small hotel room came become very hot even in winter... having a spacious getting ready area benefits you as staying at room temp will allow your hair and makeup to last much longer and your makeup and hair folks will work much better in a cooler room. not to mention you wont have everyone bumping into eachother left and right..sometimes bridal party members who arent even getting hair and makeup are there just to join in the fun, but it can get very and I mean very crowded..if your artist bumps into someone every time she turns around or there is too much going , not only may you feel nervous or anxious..so will the artist and not perform as well as usual. Just sayin...

5.Payment. Confirm the wedidng day balance witht he makeup artist ahead of time, if she hasnt already sent and email out confirming the final count for makeup, start and end time , location as well as balance..better ask! Have the final payment in an envelope ready to go, so you dont have to hurry around gathering money while your trying to get ready and relax. If your collecting from bridal party members, you can even do this the evening before after the rehersal dinner.

6.Gratuity. Please remember that gratuities are usually not included in pricing and Greatly appreciated as a mobile salon is all that much better than your usual salon, this is your big day, and you didnt have to step foot out into the weather, traffic and chaos. And especially if you Loved the final look and service :) Also consider you may need to utilize the services of these artists again, for a special event or you may even have a friend or family contact them for their wedding, they may be more flexible with newer pricing aka increases with these referrals or throw in extras like touch up lip shades or false lashes for mom ect.

7.Finally, you are the one who reaps the rewards of following these steps more than you know!
Your artist will feel refreshed and ready to go with a workable area, good lighting, water :) comfortable room temp..Your sure to get maximum results for yourself and your bridal party!

Hi there!

Ok this has been on my mind for a little while, And I just need to get it off my chest so to speak :)
So bare with me!

During the 2011 season especially I have had the unfortunate experience of arriving on the scene to provide makeup artistry, timeline in hand, everything mapped out, only to find there is Noone there for makeup services!

Yes you heard me, no Bride, no Bridal Party....

Can you take one guess as to where everyone was?

Well , incase you cant figure it out, I will help..drum roll.... THE HAIR SALON!

While, I myself go to the salon for cuts,styling ect from time to time and we all have our fav stylist.. your
wedding day is not and i repeat NOT the day to visit the salon!

Why ?

1. why would you want strangers aka onlookers watching you and your bridal party getting ready and sharing this special experience?

2. Most times you have to wait for the salon to open, which may be 9am, say for example you have 5 for hair services, and you have a 1or 2 pm ceremony with photos before hand, it doesnt leave you any wiggle room for travel/parking/ makeup/dressing ect.. get the picture?

3.Location location, how far away is the salon from the venue or hotel? if its downstairs great! but chances are its back in your home city, which may mean traffic coming back, dont forget it takes time to party ect.

4. salon interuptions, such as phones, walk ins, ect...

5. Is is raining outside or snowing perhaps, or majorly windy? well have fun on the way out to your car and then out of your car and back into your venue or hotel..you may lose half of what you paid for already.

6. If you have a makeup artist or other vendor waiting for you at your venue/hotel/home they may be waiting for you, and charge a wait time, or worse yet, they may have a second wedding after yours, and if you are 1 our more hours late, they may have to leave without finishing the schedule or be late for the next wedding and charge an overtime fee.

With all of this being said, request that your fav hair stylist come to you the day of! If they cannot or aren't willing to take off the morning or day from the salon, then hire a pro hair stylist that specializes in Bridal Hair, which I think is always a huge plus! They create seamless timelines, understand what brides are looking for, use products that hold up to the long event ! Normally the pricing is comparable, and at times a few extra dollars is def worth it to have a gorgeous updo and enjoy the time with family and friends aka bridal party while you sip your mimosa's and giggle in the comfort of your suite/home/venue. why risk the traffic, the parking, the hassle and the chance of messing up a gorgeous style in the sometimes crazy weather we have in the dmv!

Should The Groom See Your Pre-Bridal aka Makeup Trial Look?

Lets Have a little chat Ladies :) It has come to my attention once again that Some Brides are allowing the grooms to be to have a sneak preview of their makeup trial aka Bridal makeup look or even hair trial/bridal hair. For some of you, it may bring peace of mind? reassurance? approval perhaps?

For some of you it can be a real let down of sorts..Can confuse the look you had planned on. make you question your taste. Or just plain burst your Bubble.

I do understand trust me :) Back in the olden days (smile) actually a few years back, when I was traveling out to brides for trials, it was not uncommon to see the groom hanging around, catching some sports or having dinner while catching up on a book ect...

The Bride would just love love her final makeup look, proudly walk into the other room with almost a skip..all to hear the dreaded words.. Are those fake lashes? With a tilt of the head. Or perhaps silence.. awkard silence. There was the occassional, isnt that lipstick kinda bright? Or wow I am not used to seeing you with makeup, you look so..uhhhmmm different :)

Here is the deal ladies.Your Bridal gown is no doubt a secret, yes? Why would you show off your hair or makeup style? keep that top secret as well! besides the reasons above, let me name a few more.

1.He is seeing your bridal makeup without your Gown on/hair style/jewels/flowers/among other details.. this can really confuse as you may be in your jeans and white t shirt. Ofcourse the makeup is going to look like its too much and out of place. why? because it is! lol

Once everything comes together, you will look nothing short of a beautiful romantic bride, right off the pages of an Estee Lauder perfume commercial. Trust me! have seen this a million times over!

2.Doesn't He like you most with a pony tail,clean face and yoga pants? So this can be a bit of a shock. And lets face it, your priority is too look beautiful and not washed out in 600 plus pics that will be coming your way shortly after your wedding. It may be something that never even cross's his mind.

So think of this as a top secret piece of your wedding, save it for the big day! You will be sooooo glad you did!

A Little Change Of Pace

Last weekend I had a little change of pace, from time to time I collaborate with local photographers/models and designers. Last weeks collab took place in DC with Photographer Magnetic Images http://www.magneticimages.net/ ... Dwayne is a class act! and oh so talented!
Model Amanda Crawford, who is such a sweetheart and i totally expect to see great things from her in the modeling world! And last but not least Designer Tim http://www.modelmayhem.com/timbrocollection who is so talented! incredibly fun to work with and trust me when I say, his designs are the kind that any woman would love to wear! I am still thinking of one of his pieces, and so would of taken it home! Infact its right here in this photo! And then there is the Makeup... I love this style, I must admit..its clean/sultry/sexy and I used all earth tones with a bit of bronze.. Enjoy!

5 Tips To Maximize Your Bridal Makeup Artist

Hello Brides to be!

I wanted to give you 5 ways to maximize your bridal makeup artist... Hope this helps!

1. Schdule your makeup trial the same day as a special event! maybe you are a guest in a wedding that day, or have a night out on the town planned, or maybe an egagement session? This way you are able to meet with your makeup artist, have your consult for the big day and you can always have her tone down your makeup, or better yet, switch up your lip color , or fool everyone and add something you wont have at the wedding. ect so its not your exact bridal makeup. Note- not all makeup artists like makeup trials to be the same time as an engagement session, so find someone felxible.

2. Make sure that you have adequete space for your makeup artist to set up, be it your hotel room, home or venue.. an artist needs their working space, good lighting, natural lighting works best or I personally love working in natural light but having access to artifical lighting so I know what your makeup will look like in the evening in reception lighting. without these 2 important things, you wont get your maximum results... your artist will struggle to work and wont be able to color match properly.

3. relax and enjoy and stay off of your cell phone! :) this may likely be the only time in your life you actually hire a makeup artist, so try hard not to let distractions like cell phones, and visitors get in the way of enjoying this fun and relaxing hour.. not to mention turning your head, talking ect..makes it very hard for an artist to work on your face, especially with eye makeup! remember get the most out of your artist~

4.Bring along your inspiration photo, it may of been 6 months since you saw your makeup artist and she hasnt seen your inspiration photo since then, or maybe you are tanner? changed ur mind on your look? so its very helpful to bring one along! bridal party members can as well, its a time saver and a visual is always helpful!

5. Even though its your big day and the makeup artist is there working for you, you wouldnt want him or her feeling thirsty would you? make sure to at least have bottled water on hand..alot of artist's appreciate this more than you know and it helps them to feel good and work at their maximum potential.

I love testing out new products that come out! Anything that claims to be long wearing peeks my curiosity and I am always on the look out for my brides!

Another good find! Straight from Estee Lauder, who by the way is such an amazing line!

And YES this could possibly be your Grandmother's fav makeup line! Who doesn't know Estee Lauder? I worked behind the counter for the company years ago inside of Dillards and then became one of their free lance artist's I have to say...from experience that, the packaging is beautiful, the products are long wearing, wide shade variety and finding an Estee Lauder counter is pretty easy, since most fine department stores carry the line.

This is the Double Wear Stay In Place gel eye liner, easy to apply, dries in lightning speed time and stays put! great for long events such as weddings, especially if your in a humid climate! Give it a try.. I did..and I give it 5 out of 5 stars! The pigment is wonderful ..note make sure to smudge or blend right after applying since it drys so fast! I think you will love this! let me know what you think!

I tested out the shade "limited Edition" -Violet.. a shade like this is good for a defined look, yet brightens the eye!

Revealed! Royal Wedding Makeup Done Using Bobbi Brown Cosmetics

While Kate Middleton has yet to confirm whether or not she applied her own makeup for her big day, one thing is for sure: the makeup used for the bridal party was Bobbi Brown Cosmetics. In a status update on the brand's Facebook page, a few details were given, although some mystery remains. The statement read:

"We are proud to confirm that Bobbi Brown Cosmetics makeup artist Hannah Martin provided makeup artistry assistance to members of the bridal party for the royal wedding. We wish to respect the privacy of all those involved, and therefore will not be releasing further details."

It does make sense that Kate would use products from the line, as she was apparently seen stocking up on makeup at a Bobbi Brown counter just about a week before the wedding, and the brand's makeup does fit in with the new duchess's clean-looking aesthetic. But as for exactly what was used and on whom (get the details on who was who in the group here), it seems that information will remain a royal secret.

What happens if you skimp on the blush? You get a washed out tired look in person and even more so in photographs! Choices Choices... there are powder, creams, and even liquid blushes. If you tend to be dry..got with a cream blush , if your skin is oily a powder is your best bet! If you have combo skin.. you can do either or I love to layer and use both to give texture to the cheek, cream first then finish it off wtih powder.
Bottom line is... Don't forget your blush!

Well winter is upon us and the wedding season has slowed down for me, In the meantime I love to keep the creative wheels churning. Recently I had the wonderful opportunity to participate in a fitness photo shoot with Photographer Brian Landis and Pro Fitness model Jessica Boughers.

The shoot was fitness as well as Boudoir oriented for a submission to magazine American Curves.
Last year the three of us collaborated and this resulted in a gorgeous 9 page pictorial. So, we are super excited to see which issue we end up in this year! You can be I will keep you posted!

The Groom's Influence On The Bridal Makeup

Have you ever noticed how many times you were getting ready for a night out on the town, or just for a simple lunch and shopping with your main squeeze, to step out into your living room, waiting for the ooohhs and ahhhhhs just to get dissapointed with a response like, "I like you best without makeup". "Why the bright lipstick?" "Are those your lashes?"

Have no fear! You are not alone! Its true that most men really do love a more natural approach to makeup and honestly even hair styles. In doing plenty of research and just living through this myself as a makeup artist, Most brides I meet with def have a concern that the groom will be dissapointed if she has too much makeup on, or doesnt look like what he is used to.

I respect this... Whats important to know is this. As the big day planning continues and you write out those checks to vendors, one of the larger checks will more than likely be to your fabulous photographer, whos work you so admire and are counting on to capture all of the important moments... the walk down the aisle, the kiss, the natural light photos to the dim lighted reception.. You get the picture! :)

If you do indeed want to actually feel comfortable staring at that wedding portrait on the wall without feeling oh so dissapointed that you are washed out... look like you have no makeup at all on... or just look dull, your dress may be divine.. the flowers colorful.. the hair style could be a fancy updo... But, please remember your makeup must rise up to the occassion!!!!! You cannot justify wearing your friday night out to the movie makeup.. which probably consists of mineral powder makeup, a little mascara and your fav lipgloss and a touch of bronzer. Come on.. I know your smiling now :)

But, the truth about that makeup is this. that mineral makeup you love so much that takes all of 5 min to apply, will make you look like a disco ball with the flash..due to all of the crystals.minerals that reflect.
The gloss, even tho its your fav, may not show up since its maybe a nude shade :) Am I right?
Thr bronzer gives a bit of warmth, but with no blush on the apples, its just not enough in a white gown.
The mascara does not give your lashes that curl, that length and thickness that really makes you eyes pop only the way you dreamed.

Let your honey chose your next new car.. or name your first born.. But please ladies.. Just because he loves you with your natural look, doesnt mean sacraficing your wedding photographs.videos. ect.
Be kind to yourself, and trust me ,,he will see how it all comes together on your wedding day! he won't complain one bit!

I was inspired by this photograph and the perfectness of the makeup application.Yes the face is gorgeous to begin with ...but Mario did a beautiful job in chosing the colors/contouring ect... I think its actually the perfect look for one of those Holliday parties that you just simply want to "wow them"! I also think this could be a very gorgeous look for a winter bride, example NYE wedding. Especially the silver accents against the white give that winter wonderland/Holliday look.

What a difference a set of falsies can make! When I say falsies , I am referring to false lashes!

They are a dream come true for those of us who are not blessed with long luscious lashes, and a way to turn up the volume for some of us who need more volume or curl. As a bridal makeup artist, I have seen brides and their bridal parties transform after falsies are applied.

I personally prefer the strip lashes opposed to the individuals, but offer both.

One of the most important parts of a good set of falsies , is ofcourse the application of them.

Not every client of mine has been able to withstand the eyelash application proccess , due to eye sensitivity, nerves , contacts or the idea of having a lash in their line of vision makes them feel uneasy. So this is not ideal for everyone. But worth a try!

This requires a steady hand on the makeup artist's part and the right type of adhesive, something waterproof and a surgical type of adhesive that is safe and not painful when going to remove lashes. Last but not least. the ever so patient bride or client who can remain still and hold her eyelids in place for a good 10 min to let the lashes set properly..otherwise drum roll.... Because if not...
Lifting may occur or a shifting of the lashes to the wrong area , causing glue to stick in places on the eyelid ect. The proccess of removing excess glue or resetting a lash can take more time and every makeup artist can agree that occassionaly you come across a lash that is truly a "lemon" and requires a replacement.

The impact lashes have in photographs is tremendous especially for those profile shots. Very glam and for aging women, takes 10 years off, a much more youthful look.

Pin-up Girl Make-up Tips

Pin-up fashion is a classic vintage fashion style which exudes femininity and style. Since vintage styles have been making a huge comeback ! Alot of brides are taking this look or a slightly milder verison to the alter.
It makes for breathtaking photographs and gives a very timeless look.

Note, one thing you need to know is that the lip color usually is a shade of red, be it bright or darker..sometimes a pink works as well.. these colors require touch ups throughout the entire wedding and or event, so make sure you have your lip shade.. a good prep tip to clean up any discoloration from your lip so you have a clean palette, conceal your lip well, use a good liner that is very close to the same shade as the lipstick. Blot with a bit of translucent powder around the edges of the lip to help prevent bleeding,,
In my mua opinion, avoid applying a gloss and keep it matte! This will also give that old fashioned look and help keep the lip color on longer.

Selecting a Makeup Artist for your wedding day may be like finding a new hairstylist. Think back to the last time you needed to find a new stylist. How did you go about looking for the right person? I usually look for people that have beautiful hair and ask them where they got it done. Finding a Makeup Artist to suit your style may require a similar tactic. However, narrowing in on the right person will involve some research, as well as some trust.

Your wedding day makeup is critical for being camera ready for your photographs. It’s easy to overlook or assume that your “everyday makeup” applied a little heavier will do the trick. It’s important to hire a Makeup Artist that specializes in bridal makeup, and that has been trained in how to create a long-lasting application that will look not only amazing in person, but on film.

As you begin your search, start with your married friends and ask them who did their makeup for their wedding. Look at their wedding album and take note of how their makeup looked throughout the day and in different lighting situations. Did the makeup look just as good before the ceremony as it did in the last frame? Talk to your photographer about what kind of look you want for your wedding pictures and ask them for a recommendation. Your photographer will be able to give you a professional opinion about someone in the industry that they may have already worked with. Use you local resources to research professional Makeup Artists in your area. These include bridal magazines, bridal websites or bridal expos.

Once you have found an artist that you think you would like to use, get a sense of the their credentials before you meet with them in person for a consultation. Ask to see their portfolio and see if their makeup style matches your own. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and get a sense of the artist’s personality. When you have agreed on the makeup application and decide that you would like to schedule the artist for your wedding day, negotiate the price for you and your attendants and sign a contract. Just like any other vendor that you hire for your wedding, put all of the terms of your agreement in writing and pay a deposit. I am so excited that I reached 50 reviews on my weddingwire listing this weekend! My goal was to reach 40 my summers end.. But I got over 50!!!!

Hello to all the brides to be and congrats!
Now, this post is not intended to seem as though I am justifying hiring myself or any other makeup artist, I just want to be helpful and make some valid points, and well..food for thought :)
Ok, so the question is,,,just how important is it to hire a pro makeup artist for your wedding day?
Answer? Its MAJOR!.... weddings from small intimate affairs to those that are on a larger scale, there is one thing all weddings have in common and that is the focus, which is ..drum roll..... the bride!!!!
And when I say the bride, I am referring to the way she looks! from the gown to the hairstyle, shoes, jewls. And finally yes.. One very important factor that is too often been ignored by brides which is unfortunate. Sometimes this very important responsbility is left up to someone like "cousin Jane" who worked at the local makeup counter for a dept store for a year and insists she can work her magic for free.

Now, while this saves money , the end result may not be what you had in mind,YIKES! And, ask yourself...How will "Cousin Jane" take it when you try to let her down or give her direction? Never a good idea to mix business with pleasure with family or friends on your wedding day needs, or have them volunteer to act as wedding vendors, this has the potential to ruffle feathers or even a train wreck.

Not to mention the fact that she or he may not have the appropriate products or range of colors needed for all who desire services. I highly doubt they will go out and splurge on a kit for your wedding day, since this is a one time deal. Are you ready to purchase hundreds of dollars in makeup and brushes ect?

One of the first things that comes to mind is, how will your makeup look in yours photographs!? You had no doubt taken the time to find the perfect photographer to capture all of your special moments throughout the entire day from the getting ready portion ,to the last dance. So, wouldn't it make sense that you look amazing in those photographs?

Also, may I kindly point out that its important to include your bridal party in makeup services if possible so that the women surrounding you look amazing as well, feel confident and enjoy being pampered along with you! Its a great gift as well! You can let everyone know in advance that your gift to them is makeup services on the big day! some may not be able to afford this, or may already be spending on the dres ect or even the hair stylist,so in the end you get the benefits of everyone looking wonderful in your wedding photographs!

A makeup artist, a good one that is, will know what products to use,what the latest trends are, how to use these products and applications. They will have an up to date portfolio showing their work as well as setting up a trial run/consult with you, so they can work their magic and show you their customer service style,expertise, and take any special requests, comments ect you may have, and guess what? They normally won't mind because this is what they do for a living! They should love what they do and let it show! And a good makeup artist will want your input.
Your the only one who can honestly say, I like this but I would like to change this, after all, your makeup should be customized to fit your needs and desires.

This is the one day you will be photographed the most, this is the one day you will wear the most amazing gown you have ever worn, your queen for the day, why leave your makeup to chance? Factor makeup into your budget.

Sometimes, you may have a few makeup trials in order to find the right makeup artist for you. Do you like the artists work? How about personality? How are communications, quick replies to emails and or phone calls? If not.. huge red flag!!!
Do you click? Yes ,you heard me, do you click? You do want to get along well with the person you have trusted your face to on your wedding day, it will be all the more enjoyable if you do and quite relaxing! Something you will really look forward to, as will your bridal party!

Pricing.... Ok so there are new artist's out there or a few that are experiencing slow business, therefore the trial run may be free of charge or even applied to your wedding day balance if you book. But, this is not a good reason to go with them, you need to love the look, get along great with them and feel they are the one for you! And there is the old saying.. "You get what you pay for" smile :) Your makeup artist can set the tone for your day, and should enhance your occassion.

Normally, the trial run cost money, the artist is investing their time, products, and sometimes even traveling to you. They value their time , as they should, and guess what? they value your time as well, so they will be punctual and will make the most of the time with you.If they are seasoned vet they do this on the regular. Important to know, that if you do not book, they know someone will, if there artistry is that good,So there wont be any sales pressure. The makeup Artist's bed side manner so to speak, and their products are awesome, up to date and they educate you while applying the makeup. These are some true signs of a pro.
They may also offer to take photos for you with your camera and know exactly what angles and lighting flatter you most. If you make suggestions, they will listen, and if they feel this is not in your best interest they will kindly tell you why...Important trait in a makeup artist.

So,when your wedding day arrives, feel confident! invest in yourself! If there is one day in your life you should and deserve to, its your wedding day!

Your beautiful face ,is what the groom looks at while the vow exchange takes place and your face is in almost every single photograph...Please don't allow yourself to be washed out or anyone else in your bridal party! Avoid having to feel badly while looking at your wedding photos over the years to come. Love your gown! your hair! and think,,,what was I thinking? Why did't I invest in a pro bridal makeup artist?

This is an amazing and very glamourous look that is sure to take your Grooms breath away!
Dramatic eyes with the liner on the top lid being a key feature,Eye shadow are several light shades consisting of beige/tan shades with a nice coco brown in the crease to give definition. Full lashes are a must and false lashes with very defined brows bring the look full circle, flawless skin with a very soft romantic girlie pink blush, contouring the hollows of the cheeks with a matte bronzer,

The lipshade should be vibrant, red matte lips( no gloss) for a true vintage feel or you could go with the right pink shade.

There seems to be a lot of talk about airbrush make up and if you browse through any brides forum it's a subject that is cropping up more and more. So, what is airbrush make up and what's so special about it? Why should YOU seriously consider it for your wedding day?

Well, it's a make up technique that's actually been around for about 10 years but has been principally used in the film and television industry. It really is sprayed onto your face ( or your entire body, if that's what you want) and gives a perfect finish. It can cover pretty much anything, from tattoos, port wine stains, spider veins, acne scars, freckles and fine lines. In fact, it's the only make up that can stand up to the intense and cruel spotlight of High Definition Television and that's why the industry uses it.

It's a bit like spraying an extremely fine layer of plastic on. Except, it's not plastic. It's normal make up, mixed with water, or silicone fluid. During the process it should feel like a cool, light breeze against your skin - not a gale force blast of air. If it's done properly it can be a wonderful, incredibly relaxing experience. There are number of benefits as well:

•It's hygienic - no sponges or powder puffs are used
•It's twice as fast to apply, compared to normal make-up, and it lasts up to 16 hours, with almost no need to apply touch ups
•It's lightweight and gives a natural, flawless look
•It doesn't rub off or transfer

Things to be aware of

•Book a trial session with the artist (preferably one that specialises in the technique) a few weeks prior to your wedding day and see how you like it and how good they are.

•The make up should not be a thick layer that clogs up your face - if this is the result you get at your practice session, then don't use that artist again because they simply do not know what they are doing.
•Some make up artists may use alcohol in their spray mixture - while this provides increased resistance to sweat, it's not always suitable for sensitive skins. Discuss this with the artist.
•To avoid a disaster, your best bet is to go with a professional Bridal/Wedding Makeup Artist or hire someone who comes highly recommended.

While it can be used to apply blush, and even eye colour, many artists prefer to use it to achieve a smooth foundation and then go on to apply the rest of your make up with brushes. The good old-fashioned method, if you like.

It's not a cheap process and prices vary quite a lot, from about $180 to $300 for a session. Is it worth it? Well yes, definitely, if perfection is what you're after.

Here are some reviews from drugstore cosmetic brands I have tried out, thought I would share with all of you, maybe next time you are in need of something this will help narrow it down .

1.REVLON
Hands down my very favorite drug store brand. Revlon keeps up on the latest cosmetic trends, from colors to textures to the latest products made for dept stores.
They are on the pricey side for drug store cosmetics, but with good reason and if you watch your newspaper ads for your local cvs/walgreen alot of times they will have buy one get one frees on lipshades ect.

MY REVLON FAVS
1.Primer- similar to smashbox but alot less expensive and easy access.A little goes a long way! So be mindful of that.

2.*NEW*Grow Luscious Mascara by fabulash- your lashes really do grow!!! But be careful smudges easily, not waterproof for obvious reasons, waterproof ingredients tend to dry out the lashes.

3.colorstay for the brows! Love this! stays put up to 16 hours...one end of the pencil is a tint/wax built it, the other end is a highlighter for under the brow to lift.

4.All of the lipsticks/glosses are excellent! awesome staying power.

5.Foundations best drugstore choice- very nice matte finish's to more luminous like the new Photogenic airbrush finish foundation most are full coverage.

L'OREAL

1.H.I.P bright eyeShadow duos are very nice, high pigment.

2.Vuluminous Mascara (original). Excellent mascara! impressive.

3. Telescopic liquid Liner- very easy application for anyone with a not so steady hand..liquid liner is tough to apply and this one stays well!

MAYBELLINE

1.Great Lash Mascara! an old time fav for alot of mua and women! I use it for trial runs all the time! very economical and works wonderful! comes in waterproof as well.

2.*new* Falsies mascara.LOVE LOVE this..new formula..I carry the waterproof for brides :)

BLACK RADIANCE
For ladies of Color..I really like this line! vibrant pigement..staying power is good and good products for the price!

Ok, I am not a Cover girl fan..Nor am I a fan of Rimmel London and if I have not mentioned wet and wild its for obvious reasons as well although some of these lines have great ad campaigns..the products I have tried are not worthy of noting here.

Chosing The Right Shades

Hello Ladies!

This post was requested by a few of you, So Lets talk makeup!
For some of us its second nature to see an eyeshadow palette or blush ect and just know without even a test, that it would be great for your complexion,hair color or eye color.
But, For others this can be a true challenge, and some of you may of speant countless hours either at your local drug store examining boxes, exhausting your options ( no testers provided) until you leave either empty handed or with a bag full of cosmetics that end up being the wrong shade, texture ect...

So, I wanted to send some ideas your way that can help you along your makeup journey.

One option if in your budget is to hire a makeup artist, Like myself in your area to help you out with this , by visiting you at home, finding out about your likes and dislikes, your rountine ect.. A good makeup artist can make a face chart and document everything customized just for you, shades , name brands she may of used that you like and where you can find them. This typically costs anyplace from $75-$200 per lesson depending on the length of the lesson and if their is travel involved ect.

Another option is to visit your local department store cosmetic counter or Cosmetic store such as Sephora or Ulta and visit with them and have them do a complimentary make over, keep in mind, although they may be happy to have you in their chair, they usually do expect that you buy at least a few items :) I know this from back in the day. So expect to purchase a minimum of 2 or 3 products, spending at least $50 or more.

But, in my experience, the following hair/complexion/eye colors go best with these shades.

Note: The best way to chose the right foundation/base shade for yourself is by having a lesson with a personal mua or visiting the counter, Also make certain you stand in the natural light as well to see how the shade looks as dept store lighting can be very deceiving! One of the things I suggest is a winter foundation shade and a summer foundation shade.. in between you can customize and mix a little.
But a drug store is not the ideal place to find a good match, as you certainly do not have the option of testing the shade, and running it across your hand does not do the trick ladies!

Brunnettes
Eyeshadows- we are the lucky ones! we can wear everything from cool to warm..
Plums/Mauves combos Browns/bronze tones combos or the smokey eye utilizing the greys/blks/silvers. If you happen to have an olive complexion you can even go a little brighter or bolder and use more dramtic applications.

Black eyeliner works best..deep browns for a softer look and if you are a brunnette with soft brown hair or hightlights. Navy blue looks nice as well, Plum is also a choice.

Blushes- Again.. from peaches to pinks to bronzer large variety to chose from!

Lip shades... stay youthful and stick with lighter shades such as sheer pinks/mauves/peaches/nudes with a clear gloss on top. If you line the lips with a pencil this helps the lip color stay longer and helps to avoid bleeding in some cases.

Blondes-Warm tones..but if tan or have an olive complexion you can go with some cool tones.
Depending on your eyecolor, eyeshadows that are most flattering are
the browns/bronzes/gold tones.. with another option being the mauves/pinks or carefully chosen plum family... But avoid the greys/silvers as they can tend to appear like someone punched you in the eye a few too many times...If you have a tan complexion you can try to get away with it though on a night out on the town and with a nude lip this can be very sexy.

Eyeliner can be dark brown for a softer look or black..whichever you prefer and for whatever occassion.. for daytime soft brown or dark brown may work best , depending on your eye color and just how blonde you are.

Blushes... Peaches and pinks... and ofcourse bronzers.. but avoid berry or mauve as they may be too harsh.

Lips.. again soft/sheer.. nudes,pinks,peachy tones work best.. avoid berry or red or dark colors as this is a very dated look unless its a night out on the town with a little black dress,, then by all means break out the red!

RedHeads...I personally feel like redheads look best in warm tones.

For eye shadows..
warm browns/cinnamons/bronzes/neutrals all work well.
In my opinion going with cool tones throws everything off...avoid blues/greens/pinks/mauves..as they will clash with your coloring especially if you have blue or green eyes ( light eyes)

Eyeliner..can be black if applied correctly..But dark brown is best.. avoid blue or colored eyeliner..again this clashes.

Again, if you are tan you can play around with a smokey eye for a night on the town but be mindful of making sure the lip is light or nude toned.

Blushes- bronzer ( light) and peach or warm brown blush works best.. pinks can be used but lightly..stay away from berry/red/or bright red tones.

Lips.. go warm!!!! light tan/nudes/peaches/ and you can get away with sheer pinks.

Mascara- My opinion.. black works best for everyone...Dark brown or colored mascara just doesn't flatter most women, remember these are my opinions.

How to make your lips a lot more kissable and attractive

Exfoliate the dry skin on your lips daily. If you want to keep the skin on your lips smooth regular exfoliation is the key, You can do this with a clean, dry toothbrush (a new one, not the one you use for your teeth). Put on the lips a little bit of Vaseline and then gently brush your lips with the toothbrush for several seconds. Do not brush them too hard or they will be raw and sore. After that exfoliation you will feel your skin smooth and gentle.

Put on the lip balm as often as you can. Without moisturization getting smooth and kissable lips is virtually impossible.Don’t use lipstick with matte shade, because matte lipsticks tend to have more pigment but a fewer moisturizing ingredients. Don’t forget that the sun is damaging the skin on the lips – protect them with SPF 15 or higher lip balm under the lipstick. Try on a sun protecting cream too. The lips have a minimal amount of melanin and that’s why they don’t have natural defense against the sun.

Drink water. The skin on the lips is dry because you aren’t drinking enough water. Make sure to drink at least 2 l of water every day.

Put honey on your lips as often as you can. Wait to absorb and then put a lip balm. Honey contains many beneficial ingredients that will help you fight the drying of the lips.

Quit smoking. Smoking is damaging your health as well as your skin. It also speeds up the formation of vertical wrinkles around your mouth. Do not lick your lips as the saliva evaporates and pulls away the moisture and makes them dry.

Dear Brides To Be!

Please remember to pick up Your favorite Lipstick from the makeup trial or another of your choice and don't forget about the gloss and lipliner if you are planning to use these as well, make sure you have that perfect combo that we tried at your bridal makeup trial, I always make it a point to write the shades/brands and let you know if they are available at a local dept store/cosmetic store or online.

Remember, that after the initial application on the wedding day you will be kissing the day and or night away and having beverages as well as eating your wedding meal and the cake! Who can forget the cake. In between all of this action, your photographer and videographer ( if you have hired one) Will continue to shoot!

Reminder, You may want to pick up tinted lip shades in pinks/peaches/nudes/berry shades for your bridal party so that they too will continue to look fabulous throughout the entire Wedding festivities!!!! Its easy for them to forget to pick one up!!!

So please dont let your lips get lost in the excitement! A good tip is to have your MOH or MOB or Bridesmaid help remind you or hold on to them for you!

3 Ways To Avoid Makeup Meltdown At Summer Weddings!

One of the most popular wedding-beauty questions you guys have sent melately is: What's the best way to keep makeup from sliding right off during a steamy, outdoor summer wedding? Here are some of our best tips for helping your wedding-day makeup keep its cool.

1. Prep skin with an oil-absorbing base.

Use moisturizer only where necessary, and then smooth on a light lotion or primer designed to absorb excess moisture off your skin's surface. Two that dermatologists and makeup artists swear by: Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer and Vichy Normaderm Pro Mat. When you blend your foundation on top, it'll stay seamless and smooth for much longer, even when you sweat. Be sure to set your makeup with powder, too; just leave your cheeks powder-free (or more lightly powdered) if you want to maintain a glowy look.

2. Layer your eye makeup.

To keep liner and shadow from migrating amidst humidity and sweat, start with an eyeshadow primer that works similarly to the foundation primers mentioned above (but formulated so as not to irritate your eyes). Then, use a clean eyeshadow brush to dust on a bit of translucent face powder before applying your eye makeup. When you're done, dust on one more layer as extra insurance, to really set the color.

3. Mist on a setting spray.

When your face is fully finished, lock the makeup in place by spritzing on a spray designed to help offset the effects of heat and humidity, like Make Up For Ever Mist & Fix or Model in a Bottle. Or my my newest fav is urban Decay " All Nighter spray"

Finally, be sure to tuck some blotting papers in your clutch so you can sop up oil and sweat during bathroom trips without wiping off your meticulously applied makeup.

Makeup trials/consults are important in the way that they help the Bride and the makeup artist sit down together and discuss the brides desires for her wedding day makeup, what she usually does as a makeup routine, or possibly she may not have one and needs solid advice. The theme of the wedding has importance along with the gown/hair style ect.... How does she imagine herself walking down the isle?

dramatic red carpet entrance? light and flowy with a glow? that california tan/beachy look? or an elegant classic style? these are all factors...

However, believe it or not I have learned through experience that you can actually go without the trial/consult if need be due to schedule conflicts or last minute booking allowing no time for a trial..or maybe the bride would prefer to spend the trial fee else where in the wedding... alot can be done by email and telephone.. photos of makeup styles and descriptions can be emailed to the makeup artist if need be along with a photo of the bride with and without makeup...

agreements can be emailed /faxed and or mailed to hold services..

Afterall, there is usually a bridal party.. and does the makeup artist have a trial with any of them? normally not... its the day of the wedding when she sees them for the first time and trys to bring what they have in mind for makeup that day to reality...

You can sense a connection of the bride from her emails.phone calls ect and she of the makeup artist.. is she attentive and a good listener and communicator?
Does she echo back your wants and desires ?

I thought this article could be helpful as alot of brides do book in advance to hold the date for summer weddings epsecially , but when trial time roles around it can be difficult to actually find the time to do it! so its not a lost cause.. there are ways to get around it if need be...

But, traditionally its a wise idea to have one if you can find the time and the funds.. that way you can see the makeup for yourself, make changes and meet your artist and see if she is all you thought she was cracked up to be ? is there a connection in person? afterall, you are trusting your face on your wedding day of all days to her.. so she needs to be the one :)

Hi Everyone!

Wow Its getting busy around here!!!! Each morning its like christmas opening up my email lol...I just love hearing from all of the Brides to Be..And i find myself wishing I could do everyone's wedding, ofcourse that is not the case...

Bridal trials have gone well with a few exceptional days where weather got in the way of all of the fun!!!! As we all know the storm of the century IN md/dc/va and then followed by A Second good sized one! We couldn't catch a break two weekends in a row!!!!! No fair lol

I am really looking forward to starting actually weddings next month and have bookings all the way up to the end of 2010 and the 2011 brides are starting to inquire..so all is well!

I am excited about the fact that i recently ordered a small book of some of my work to bring with me on trials... cant wait to see it!!! I Also plan to bring it with me to bridal events...

Last evening I attended a wonderful event the Serendipity 2010 at the valley mansion in cockeysville MD..gorgeous venue!!! and thrown my two class act vendors a MD photographer and MD event planner..Both so friendly..and talented!

How to Hire a Makeup Artist

Makeup artists don’t just do weddings. If you want to look nice for a big event, find an expert! most of them do freelance work for a surprisingly affordable fee.

1.Shop around
2.Schedule a test run
3.Make yourself clear
4.Get the timing right

Make yourself clear. Once you’ve found someone you like, ask plenty of questions. How much does she charge? ($75 to $150 is typical, depending on where you live.) Will she bring her own makeup and brushes, or use yours? Make sure you’re entirely clear on the costs and your expectations, and speak up about anything she did during the test run that wasn’t perfect—“The eyes are heavier than I wanted” or “That lipstick washes me out”—so she has a chance to correct it.

Get the timing right. Schedule your appointment for about three hours before the event; that way, you won’t feel rushed, and the makeup will have a chance to settle. Be sure to tell her that you don’t want her to use a mix of lipstick shades, which makes touching up much more difficult. Tips On Grooming the Brows

Well groomed brows are an integral part to great looking eye makeup. The hair of the brows varies from person to person. Different hair types mean different hair structure all over the body and this includes the hair of your eyebrows. Your genes would dictate how full, how sparse, how curly, how straight and how long your eyebrows would be. And this in turn would affect how you would treat with them.

Grooming your eyebrows correctly lifts your face and gives it structure. Follow these steps to beautifully framed eyes!

1. Look at your eyebrows. Don't criticise them. Just take a look. You want to emphasise their natural shape; the eyebrows you were born with in most cases already have the perfect shape. No matter your eyebrow shape, it should in accordance with the other features of your face. Use a pencil or a small ruler to help with this.

The beginning of the brow should line up with the edge of your nostril.
The highest point of the brow should be in line with your pupil.
The end of the brow should be the end of a straight line from the edge of your nostril to the outer corner of the eye to the end of the brow.
2. Using a mascara wand or lash and brow brush, comb the brows straight up. Then with a cuticle scissors, trim the excess hairs. You would know the hair is excess as it falls outside the natural shape of the brow.

3. Brush the brows out to the temples so that the hairs lie down in a natural way.

Plucking: Using a tweezers, pluck out the stray hairs underneath the brow. Hold the strand of hair firmly at the base and pluck it out quickly. It is important to pluck the hair out according to the natural growth direction.

Waxing: Heat up the wax for at least 15 minutes or until the wax runs smoothly and has no tendrils when lifted out of the pot. Adjust the temperature to the lowest setting for about 5 minutes. This is important so that the heat of the wax would not burn the delicate skin of the eyebrows. Using a small orange stick, dip it into the wax and blow on it. Apply a very small bead to the hairs you would like to remove. Spread the bead along the hairs to be removed. Press a strip of brown cotton or muslin firmly against the wax and with one swift motion, pull against the natural hair growth.

Shaving: Please put down the razor blade or run far away from the barber. Those who shave eyebrows generally shave them until there is only a thin line. The hair begins to grow back after 3 days anyway so why go through that hassle when the results don't last? With plucking and waxing, you can make appointments 2 - 4 weeks apart.

Even with the perfect shape, gaps in the brows may need to be filled in. This can be done with the appropriate colour in a powder, gel or pencil. Shades of brown and taupe are most appropriate for most brows. Please note that on no occasion for day to day wear do black brows ever work.

To fill in your brows with a brow pencil, apply in short feathery strokes that mimic hair strands. Buff out any harsh lines with a mascara wand or lash and brow comb. If you use brow gel or powder, apply with a small stiff angle brush and make short feathery strokes. Be sure to buff out harsh lines.

As a finishing touch, you can apply a clear mascara to fix the eyebrows and keep the hairs in place.

I hold a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and have completed Doctorate-level coursework in Marriage and Family Therapy. I have provided family systems therapy to individuals, couples, and families for five years. I specialize in premarital and newly married couples however, for the past two years, my practice has focused largely on working with couples to enrich their relationships at all stages. My experience includes assisting couples to improve their communication skills, problem solving skills, conflict-resolution, emotional reactivity, trust following infidelity or substance abuse, stress management, intimacy, and emotional connectedness.

I have also conducted individual and group therapeutic services with students and their families in three local high schools in Virginia. My experience with therapeutic services cover a variety of clinical problems such as trauma, anxiety, individual psychological problems, relationship problems, behavior problems, school truancy, substance abuse, job readiness, and child-parent problems, just to name a few. I worked with limited closeness to school staff such as guidance counselors, teachers, security, school nurse, and administrators to effectively assist students while at the same time strongly upholding their rights to confidential services.

In the past, I have worked as a family counselor, for Youth Villages, a non-profit agency providing home-based therapy to adolescents and their families in Washington, DC. I used systemic models of therapy to include empirically-based Multisystemic Therapy (MST) to provide intensive home-based services. I developed and implemented interventions to focus on the family, child, school, community, and peer groups. I worked to creatively combine structural and strategic models of treatment with the MST model to adequately provide interventions which are more parent-focused bringing change throughout the family, school, community, and peers. I worked hard to assist at-risk youth who presented with concerns such as trauma, teen pregnancy, runaway behaviors, drug abuse, crime, violence, illegal behaviors, truancy, parent-adolescent conflict, psychological disorders such as depression, Bipolar disorder, suidical ideation, parental separation and divorce, stepfamily issues, legal involvement, and out-of-home placements. I worked collaboratively with all community service providers involved with the client to work in the best interest of each child and family.

Before this very challenging work, I held two internships in Connecticut working as a marriage and family therapist intern.

Education and Training

I hold a Master of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Fairfield University in Connecticut. I also hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a double major in Communication and Media Studies from Fordham University in New York. Following my master education, I completed three Doctoral courses, “Families in Crisis”, “Play Therapy and Family Therapy with Children”, and “Family Therapy and Psychopathology” from Northcentral University.

I have completed trainings in Multisystemic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing, which have added to the training I had already received in my bachelors and masters education. You may have heard of one of the latest trends in wedding photography. Hint: It involves the bride wearing a lot less than her gown. Boudoir photography is definitely gaining popularity among to-be brides, but what's it really all about? Find out whether these risque pics are for right you.

So, what is boudoir photography exactly?
Boudoir photography is a sexy new trend that's especially popular as a wedding day gift from a bride to her groom. Boudoir photos are usually taken wearing either just a little, or well, nothing at all. They're hardly X-rated though, but rather PG-13 -- as in classic pinup-inspired pics, or what the pros call 'implied nudes.' That means you're not wearing anything, but you're also not showing off anything either (think shot from the back, or lying on your stomach).

Who will take my pictures?
Many wedding photographers have embraced this trend -- your shutterbug may offer this as an additional service. An added bonus of going with a pro: Many brides like to have the best of their boudoir photos bound in a mini album just for their hubby, a service many wedding photographers are able to arrange. In some cities, you may also be able to find services that specialize in boudoir photography. While the shots you get may not be as high quality as those of a high-end wedding photographer, there can be other perks --like closets full of potential wardrobe items or props.

When should I schedule the session?
If you're spending time and money on an exercise and beauty routine, you may want to wait until a week or so before the wedding to show off the results. Plus, a fun and pampering photo shoot is a good way to indulge and take some time out from wedding planning. Though you might be inclined arrange for the session on the morning of your wedding, resist the urge. For one, you're not likely to feel very sultry if the rain clouds looming over your outdoor ceremony site are the first thing on your mind. Second, do you really want your to-be mother-in-law walking in on you while you're posing in just your veil? Stick with a separate shoot so you'll have time to really feel comfortable and get some great shots.

How long does it take?
Though it depends on the package you choose, your boudoir photo session will probably last about two hours. Why so long? It takes time for hair and makeup, plus the additional lighting setup. It may also take you a little while to relax. Most brides aren't used to lounging around wearing little, if any, clothing in front of the camera, so your first few shots will likely look a bit stiff.

What does it cost?
Cost varies considerably -- do a little investigating before you commit to a vision of what you want. Multiple set changes, renting props, or simply time spent can add up quickly. If you can add a private session onto your wedding package, you may be able to get a better deal than if you go with a different wedding photographer. The real key, of course, is whether you gel with your photographer -- if you don't feel comfortable, it will show on camera.

Where should I have it done?
Talk with your photographer to come up with the best location. Many photographers may be able to do a photo session in a studio. Another popular site is a posh hotel room. Your own home or a borrowed home is another option. The main key is to get an okay from your photographer on the locale -- a number of different backgrounds for poses are important, and they'll also need lots of natural light.

What should I wear?
The most important thing -- choose outfits that make you feel sexy. A good rule of thumb: Bring something white, something black, and something in a bright color so you can mix and match. A corset will create sexy curves. In addition to lingerie, don't forget shoes, jewelry, and that engagement ring.

Should I bring anyone along?
Though you don't want to turn your shoot into a three-ring circus, it's a good idea to bring a friend. Why? You'll feel more at ease if you can make a few jokes with a pal, plus she may be able to help with suggestions. Another idea: Bring a bottle of bubbly. A little champagne may help loosen things up. Destination weddings are popular for a number of reasons, but they do require extra planning in everything from when to send invitations to the type of makeup the bride will wear.
Rick DiCecca, global makeup stylist for Estée Lauder, travels the world as a roving brand ambassador and creative consultant. In this exclusive interview, he offers advice for destination brides to look their very best on their wedding day.
Are there special considerations a destination bride should make so that her face looks beautiful in the wedding photos?
A month before you go to your destination, get your beauty regime and any procedures you plan on having done, such as facials or Botox injections. One mistake brides make is getting a peel at the hotel spa right before the wedding. Don’t do it! No one wants to look raw and orange in her wedding pictures.

What type of cosmetics do you recommend for destination brides?

Use a humidity-proof foundation, such as Double Wear Light Stay-in-Place Makeup SPF 10 (compare prices). Wear foundation on your wedding day so that years from now you won’t look at your pictures and see skin that looks blotchy and uneven. What items do you consider essential wedding-day makeup?

At a destination wedding, you want to make sure makeup stays on your face and doesn’t move. So choose water-resistant products. Alternately, save money by using a washcloth and your favorite body foaming gel as an exfoliator. Pay special attention to the back of arms, knees, and feet. Brides consider a range of hairstyles before settling on the one they will wear on their wedding day. If the same applies to makeup, what are the styles of bridal makeup that brides should consider? And what distinguishes them?

There are four basic styles. Their application techniques and the number of products they use are different:

Natural: Ideal for beach weddings, Natural makeup uses the fewest number of products to accentuate features without going overboard.
Classic: Subtle and chic, Classic makeup provides soft definition. Wear it at a hotel destination wedding held indoors. It’s a hit with older brides and MOBs because it’s not too luminous but it helps a woman look like herself, only better.
Dramatic: This is a super-glamorous look and palette for a confident woman who’s comfortable wearing makeup and wants to be the center of attention.
Romantic: Perfect for a destination wedding in a garden setting, the Romantic palette is soft and rosy or peach-toned.
A bride typically visits her regular hairdresser to try out different wedding-day hairstyles. How can she try out wedding day makeup looks in advance?
Go to an Estée Lauder counter and choose a beauty advisor whose makeup you like. Or watch one of the artists at work, and see which results you like. Then ask if you need to make an appointment to have your makeup done.

How can you get the most out of a pre-wedding makeup session?

There are several pieces of information you can bring that will help the artist to recommend makeup for your destination wedding:

Reveal when, where, and the time of day the wedding will take place.
Bring a tearsheet that shows the type of makeup you are attracted to.
Carry a picture of the dress, or even a piece of fabric. The neckline is important to mention.

Find a makeup artist who will do what you want to do. Shop around. Take pictures when your face looks the way you want it to. Ask for a face chart before you leave that identifies which cosmetics were used. Go home and practice, practice, practice. Use the lipstick trick.

What’s “Rick’s Lipstick Trick?”

Choose a beautiful lip shade and apply lip liner first. Don’t just outline the shape of your lips. After that, fill in your entire lip area with the lip liner before applying lipstick. If you do that, it will keep the cosmetic's finish and color longer than if you wore lipstick alone. And if you want to be really on trend, skip the lipstick and just use the full lip liner with a High Gloss color finish (compare prices).

According to the Transportation Safety Administration, passengers may only carry 3 ounce or smaller containers of liquid or gel in one clear, quart-size plastic bag. While a bride can certainly fill her checked luggage with cosmetics, there’s always the chance that a critical suitcase will go astray. What are the essential cosmetics a destination bride should carry onboard in her baggie?

All the items we’ve talked about can fit in a quart-size bag. And you can transfer quantities of self tanner, body lotion, and other liquid cosmetics to little bottles to bring aboard.

On occasion you’ve been flown to a destination to work as a wedding party’s makeup artist. What’s the advantage of having a professional handle wedding-day cosmetics for a bride?

I’m on call from the moment we start the process till the last picture is done. A bride gets the look she wants and the finish she wants. She doesn’t have to worry about her face being shiny or her lipstick faded when formal pictures are made.

Are there new cosmetics or treatment products that destination brides should be aware of?

The Dos and Don'ts of Bridal Beauty

DO hire a professional hairstylist and make-up artist for your wedding day. Your wedding photography investment will be highly impacted by it. Regardless of how great your photographer is, if you don’t love how you look in your wedding photos, you will be dissatisfied. Besides that, it is one of the most important days of your life; you should look and feel especially beautiful the entire event.

DO ask the potential stylist or artist to see photos of their work, their credentials, experiences, testimonials, etc., to be sure you are dealing with a professional. Pros know the tricks of the trade, are experts in their field and will deliver top quality services.

DO have a hair and make-up consultation before the wedding. You should know exactly how you would look. You don’t want any surprises on that day!

DO go through magazines and pick out some hair and make-up looks that you like and bring them to the consultations.

DO go through magazines and pick out “must not” looks if you have any and bring them to the consultations.

DO bring someone whose opinion you trust and feel comfortable with to the consultations.

DO bring the headpiece and veil to the hair consult.

DO have your hair and make-up consultations at least six months before the wedding.

DON’T try to look extremely different on your wedding day. Your hair and make-up should only enhance you, not change you.

DO bring a picture and a swatch of your gown to the consultation because your bridal hair and make-up should complement it. For example, if your dress is very simple and elegant then your hair and make-up should portray simple elegance. If your gown is very voluptuous then your hair and make-up should be sensual. Your overall bridal look should be consistent!

DO bring a camera and take photos of the work done at the consultations so that you have them as reference. (Understand that your camera and amount of light provided by the flash may not be equal to the camera and lighting provided by the wedding photographer. The photographer’s lighting is strong and so drains much of your coloring. That is why photography make-up is applied differently than everyday make-up.)

DO ask the hairstylist and make-up artist for a contract with your wedding date, appointment time, location and balance when booking their services.

DO get a monthly facial to deep clean and exfoliate your skin.

DO have a good daily skin care regimen appropriate for your skin type.

DO drink at least 8 glasses of water a day to help keep your skin clear.

DON’T stress out! Find ways to alleviate the stress such as doing yoga, going for walks, meditation, etc. Stress wreaks havoc on the skin.

DON’T get any chemical processes ten days before the wedding. That goes for the face, body and hair. You want to leave enough time to fix anything that might go wrong.

DON’T drastically change your hair color or style. Remember you should look like yourself, just enhanced.

DO bring touch up products such as lipstick, lip liner, lip gloss and oil blotting tissues to the wedding. That is all you will need if you have your make-up applied correctly. Everything else should last the entire event.

DO self-tan before the wedding if you want a glow. Remember at least ten days before the wedding; it can always be maintained if you like how it looks.

DON’T tan too much for the wedding. Being too dark compared to your natural color is not flattering.

DO bring a pain reliever just in case you get a headache from a tight hairstyle or your headpiece.

DO wear a fragrance that you love and works with your body chemistry. The fragrance is also a part of your bridal beauty.

DON’T wash your hair the day of the wedding, wash it the day before. It is easier for a stylist to work with hair that is not squeaky clean. If you must wash it that day, then make sure you use extra hair product such as a mousse or a gel to give more texture to the hair. You should blow out your hair and make sure it is completely dry for the stylist unless he or she tells you otherwise.

DO wear a button down or zipper shirt before you start your beauty services to avoid ruining your hair and make-up.

DO surround yourself with people that help you to stay calm during your wedding day beauty preparations.

DO relish being pampered and tended to. You are queen for the day. Enjoy!

DO
Wear a special fragrance. DKNY Be Delicious may work at a picnic, but smelling like candied apples doesn’t work at your wedding.

Bring deodorant. Do we really need to say why?

Carry face blotters. Sweat+grease=horrific pictures.

Bring extra hair pins, hairspray, and hair accessories. You never know if a freak downpour or wind storm may kick up.

Wear waterproof makeup.

Bring Listerine strips. Sucking on mints or chewing gum is tacky.

Bring on-the-go teeth whitener like Go Smile’s mini capsules. You’ll be drinking red wine, so take off any superficial stains before you flash for the camera.

Keep nails classic. Yes you’re getting married, but don’t have the manicurist paint wedding bells on your fingers and toes.

Bring extra makeup for touchups.

Bring a nail file and extra polish just in case your nail breaks while trying to open the limo door.

Remember that your makeup has to be strong enough for the photos, but soft enough to wear at the ceremony. The TV anchorwoman look is never attractive off-camera.

DON’T
Go crazy with the makeup. A smoky eye may be sexy and dramatic, but remember, you’ll probably be crying; there’s nothing sexy about raccoon eyes.

Wait until the last minute to wax. A red upper lip or eyebrow can be covered with makeup, but why risk it?

Go overboard with tanning. There’s nothing worse than looking orange, staining your dress, or looking like a wrinkly chicken.

Wear anything that doesn’t make you look like yourself. You’re getting married, not going to a Masquerade.

Overdo teeth whitening. Teeth are supposed to look like teeth, not little pieces of Chiclet gum.

Go on a crash starvation diet before the big day. You can wear an underpinning if you happen to gain last-minute weight. Passing out because you’re weak is not advisable.

Make dramatic changes right before the day. Cutting off all your hair or adding six inches worth of extensions will be major trouble if you don’t like the end result.

Wear too much powder. Your makeup should stay put, but you shouldn’t look like a corpse.

Since I understand the importance of having great skin on the big day, here are some tips for brides-to-be:

Minimize stress
It’s a simple formula: The more stressed you are, the more likely you are to breakout. Therefore, one of the best ways to ensure that your skin looks great on your wedding day is to lower your overall stress level. Of course, any bride-to-be is likely to laugh at this suggestion, as it is far easier said than done. While you can’t make those final dress fittings go away, you can tackle stress from a physical angle. Try to squeeze in a few yoga classes or a soothing weekly massage in the weeks leading up to your wedding. No time for those ideas? Then try long baths or some simple deep-breathing exercises at home. By doing your best to reduce stress from a physical standpoint, your mind will eventually start to catch up.

Pay attention to nutrition
With limited time at your disposal in the weeks leading up to your wedding, it’s easy to sacrifice proper nutrition in favor of fast food and stress-induced snacking. However, you might be doing your skin a disservice by giving in to poor eating habits. Because the more oil you consume, the more oily your skin is likely to get. If a general lack of time is a factor, then consider going to the supermarket and treating yourself to items such as bagged salads, cooked lean meats, and wholesome sides. As a bride-to-be, nobody expects you to spend hours slaving over the stove in the weeks leading up your wedding, but there are ways to keep your diet in check so that your skin stays healthy in time for the big day.

Stay hydrated
The more water you drink, the better your skin is likely to look. While many soon-to-be brides might be more tempted by caffeine or even alcohol during this hectic time, you should make an effort to incorporate more water into your daily routine. Another benefit to drinking more water: It won’t cause you to put on any unwanted pre-wedding pounds.

Get some sleep
With so much to do and such little time, sleep can be a precious commodity for some brides-to-be. "Makeup should change, the way clothing does, in the colder seasons," says New York City makeup artist Rebecca Restrepo. Here are her tips for updating your routine as temperatures dip.
1. Just add water. Moisturize winter skin by adding a drop or two of water to liquid foundation; swirl them together in your hand as you apply. If you use powder, lightly spray your face with water a few minutes before application.
2. Tone it down. To make your favorite bright eyeshadow a slightly warmer shade for winter, mix it with brown: "It will deepen the color without changing it too much."

3. Beware of bronzer. "It can be so far from a woman's natural winter skin tone that it can look like orange or red smudges on the face," so adjust it as your summer tan fades.

4. Mascara for all seasons. "I always really accentuate the lashes," says Restrepo. Her foolproof technique: Use only black mascara, scraping the wand's excess onto the top of the tube before you start, "the way you would a knife on the side of a plate." Then keep working the wand into your lashes until they look really dark and feathery. "Even if you don't think there's still mascara left on that wand, there will be tons!"

So, who do you tip and who is supposed to tip them? Here are some general rules to help you to decide what the right way to handle payment in the form of tips is.

Who to Tip
The first thing to take note of is just who you should be tipping. One rule of thumb for this is to take a look at the final bill. Today, most of the opportunities for tips are often applied right to the final bill.

For example, in most restaurants, a large party will have gratuity added to the bill. But, that does not mean that this is the right amount to tip (it may be too high or too low) and it does not mean that you have to pay for it at that level).

If you pay gratuity in the final bill of your service provided for your wedding, should you give a tip on top of this to the service provider?

If you feel that the service provider has gone over and beyond what was expected of them, then it can be appropriate to provide them with more of a tip for your needs. If you feel that the tip is not enough, then by all means, a larger tip can and should be left.

Monique Lhuillier was floating on air this season — and with good reason. The designer, whose ready-to-wear business has grown steadily in the past few seasons, launched her eponymous stationery collection in January and a full-fledged bedding collection hits retailers in September. Perhaps reflecting her positive glow, Lhuillier's spring 2010 bridal collection, shown in an airy penthouse atop the London NYC hotel, made the most of lightweight fabrics, reinforcing the designer's innate know-how when it comes to manipulating silk organza and tulle. "It's about filling in the gaps of what they needed," she said of the collection, which veered away from trendy in favor of classic and timeless. "Retailers have enough inventory as it is." Origami details, a new sash belt affixed to waists, and lace trim kept the looks modern.
Also on hand were a collection of bridesmaid dresses, the designer's first extension into the world of complementary bridal wear. An eight-piece collection featuring six knee-length looks and two floor-length ones, most shown in Easter pastels, will launch in May exclusively on the designer's Website (moniquelhuillier.com). According to Lhuillier, turnaround for orders will take approximately one month. What's more, the silk taffeta dresses can be ordered in subtle shades like black, brown, and navy for year-round cocktail events (white is also available for rehearsal dinners). While the colors are interchangeable, the fabric is not.
The best part? At only $250 to $340, the sweet pieces are perfect for the fashion-savvy woman aspiring to one day
own one of Lhuillier's four-figure red carpet dazzlers.

Boudoir pictures are all the rage nowadays. If you’ve never heard of them before, Boudoir photos (or For His Eyes Only photos) are probably the best gift you can give to your husband/fiance. Haha. They’re sexy photos of you, preferably taken by a professional photographer, and then given to your fiance privately around the wedding day.
Now, they’re not necessarily nude photos. In fact, most of the time they’re not. The illusion of being nude is more often provocative than actually seeing someone naked. You can dress up in whatever you feel most comfortable in, or whatever your fiance would like to see you in. For example, I’ve seen girls wear a jersey of their fiance’s favorite sports team. Most opt for tasteful lingerie and most girls don’t take pictures they wouldn’t be able to show their friends. People often use their own bedroom to shoot in, rent a hotel room, wake up early to shoot on the beach or shoot in their photographer’s studio.
I can imagine what a lot of girls are thinking (probably because I’ve thought it too). But you definitely don’t have to be uber thin or have a Victoria’s Secret body to do this. It’s your photographer’s job to accentuate your best features and downplay your….not so best features. Plus, even if you don’t think you’re sexy, your fiance thinks you’re perfect just the way you are!
